Giving Back

Giving Back, Smoker’s Corner Style.

In the world we live in today, it is undeniable that not everyone is playing on a level field. Although there is work being done globally to aid the people who are affected by economic inequality, there can never be enough. We are fortunate to live in a country where we are given the tools to help those in need, and there is absolutely no reason for us not to use them.

At Smoker’s Corner, we believe that every child, woman & man, regardless of the differences we all have, are all equal. Nobody should be deprived of basic human needs, or treated less than any other. Imagine yourself as a child in a third world country, working full-time alongside hundreds of others your age, with no time to play, no benefit of a proper education. Being subject to abuse, disease and child labour are only a few of the brutal realities of what a normal life would be. Without our help, and the help of people everywhere, residents of third world countries will continue to be subject to this vicious, self-defeating cycle.

But, it is not only in third world countries where poverty exists. Even in countries such as our own, we are working towards ending the colossal homelessness epidemic, which at this point, is only getting worse. In addition, there is an invisible issue; people who are only scraping by with wages below the poverty line. Families that can’t afford to supply their children with school supplies, fund sports activities and even in some cases food. Many of these families will continue on this path for the remainder of their life, while others fall apart and are forced into shelters, or to live on the streets.

Operating with that mindset, we have decided it is our time to do more. We have sponsored more than ten children with World Vision for over 2 years and we will continue to add to that number. With World Vision and a handful of other organizations already under our belt, we plan to open our wallets, and our hearts to causes everywhere for years to come.

“Many small people, in many small places, do many small things, that alter the face of the world.” – Anonymous

Founded by Smoker’s Corner™ to celebrate the amazing heroism of the Veterans throughout Canada and the United States. We donate high end vaporizers to those suffering who cannot afford the proper way to take the medication they need.

Every day, military veterans suffer with crippling disabilities and the best medical equipment they need, that can’t afford. That’s where we step in. We purchase and supply these high end equipment for them. We do not expect money from any one, this is just a charity provided by Smoker’s Corner™ to help those who have done so much for our countries.

If you feel the urge to donate, by all means, we do accept donations to help compensate the purchase of each machine, which does carry a high retail cost, but we are never going to give up on the amazing Veterans from across North America.

A home is a precious thing many of us take for granted. Since 1998, the Calgary Homeless Foundation (CHF) has worked to reduce homelessness in our city.

The late Mr. Art Smith, a leading Calgary entrepreneur, politician and philanthropist, founded the CHF in order to create a unified front to fight homelessness. As of 2008, the Foundation received a new mandate: to end homelessness in Calgary in 10 years.

Calgary’s 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness was created by the Calgary Committee to End Homelessness, a community-based, multi-stakeholder, leadership group who issued the Plan and selected the Foundation to implement the Plan.

The Foundation is moving forward on implementing Calgary’s 10 Year Plan in partnership with the many homeless serving agencies, the private sector, our government partners, the faith community, other foundations and all Calgarians to end homelessness in Calgary.

The Community Foundation of Greater Grande Prairie is a proud member of Community Foundations of Canada, our national membership organization. Today there are 181 community foundations nationwide.

Community foundations serve 89% of Canadians. Total grants dispersed annually of $172 million to charitable organizations and projects. New gifts of $228 million and total assets $3.12 billion. And growing!

Community foundations are among the fastest-growing forms of philanthropy in Canada today.

They act as a bridge between donors and charities of northwestern Alberta to help create and maintain a strong, vibrant community for generations to come.
